Quarter Review
During the 1st quarter of 2018 European Central Bank kept its main refinancing rate unchanged at the level of 0.00%. Interbank rates (3-month Euribor) remained at the level of -0.33%. The European Central Bank (ECB) left its interest rates unchanged at the March’s meeting. Mr. Draghi repeated that benchmark interest rates will remain at low levels for an extended period after the end of the securities purchase program. ECB confirmed that they will continue the asset purchases, 30 billion Euros monthly, until the end of September 2018, or beyond, if necessary, and in any case until they see a sustained adjustment in the path of inflation consistent with their inflation target. Mr Draghi reiterated that the ECB will continue to reinvest, for as long as necessary, the amounts resulting from the maturities of the bonds purchased under the bond purchase program. That way, ECB expects to continue to contribute positively to liquidity conditions. The European Central Bank (ECB) kept the forecasts for inflation prospects of 2018 unchanged at 1,4% and revised forecasts, for 2019, down to 1,4% (from 1,5%). At the same time, it raised its estimates for the GDP growth of 2018 to 2,4% (from 2,3%) and left the estimates of 2019 unchanged at 1,9%. Eurozone countries continue to grow at a satisfactory pace.
