Quarter Review
During the 1st quarter of 2018 the prices of Greek Corporate bonds rose. The Moody's rating agency upgraded Greece's credit rating by 2 levels to B3, following Fitch's move, which upgraded Greece to B from B-. The yield-to-maturity of the 10-year bond rose to 4.32% from 4.12%. The spread of the yield-to-maturity of the 10-year bond against its German equivalent rose by 13 bps to 382 bps. Discussions continued between the government and the EU regarding the surveillance of Greek economy after the end of the program in the summer of 2018. The completion of major reforms is a prerequisite for the release of the last disbursement at the end of the program. Alpha Bank issued a 5-year covered bond with a 2.50% coupon rate. GEK-TERNA SA issued also a 7-year new bond with a 3.95% coupon rate through the Greek Stock Exchange. Both issues gathered substantial investment demand. According to Hellenic Statistical Authorities, the country's GDP rose by 1.9% in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2016. Unemployment, according to the latest January data, stood at 20.6% for the first time after 8 years, Greek government issued a 12-month Treasury bill with a total amount of € 1 billion and 1.25% yield-to-maturity.
